Helping a coughing little one sleep better.

Our baby V hasn’t been feeling so great. She started out with what we believe to be teething fever. It was not all that bad since she just wanted to cuddle pretty often and just felt plain sick. Her temperature fluctuated between 99° and 103°. We gave her some Motrin and she felt much better, although she didn’t take too well to drinking it down. In the end, the doctor told us it had progressed into an ear infection. This is her first. So what are we to do about the lack of sleep?

She has not slept all that well for naps or at night. She falls asleep, coughs herself awake, repeats. I feel so bad that I hadn’t thought of something sooner.

When she had a cold as an infant we read somewhere how to help with congestion and coughing at night. Take some Vick’s and rub it on the soles of the feet. Then put a pair of socks on.  It’s as simple as that. It helped her sleep through the night without a single cough. Why hadn’t we remembered that sooner? It still helps her sleep without hacking up a storm!

So if your child is feeling under the weather and has been having trouble sleeping give that little trick a try!

Until next time…

About Three Handed Mommy

Mother of one, wife to one. Hoping for more children in the future but so far I'm a three handed mommy. One hand is in school, another in loving my family, the last is on here (and all that comes with it). I love origami and I doodle once in a blue moon. Maybe I will share some drawings, both old and new. I have a slight obsession with Hatake Kakashi, Batman, rubber duckies, pandas, and Pokemon. Then again, my obsession may prove to be more than slight on more than one occassion...don't judge. :P Since this is new and all to me, please bear with me while I find my rhythm and posting habits. Hope you enjoy what I put up here! Feel free to pin anything unless stated otherwise in a post. :)

  1. I’ve used this trick with all three of my children and it works great. Another tip for children who are older than 18 months is a teaspoon of honey. It soothes their little throats and helps with the coughing.
